英語の否定構文の変化で重要な意味を持つ中英語期（1100年頃～1500年頃）
ブログ管理者の家入葉子が出版した最初の専門書です。スコットランドのセント・アンドルーズ大学に提出した博士論文（“Negative Constructions in Selected Middle English Verse Texts”）をさらに発展させて、その後の研究成果も追加して著書としたものです。博士論文との大きな違いは、博士論文が中英語（1100年頃から1500年頃の英語）の韻文作品のみを扱ったのに対して、本書では中英語期の散文作品についてのデータが含まれている点です。
英語の否定構文は、1500年ほどの歴史を通じて、大変大きな変化を遂げました。特に中英語期には、否定の副詞のneが脱落し、一つの文の中で複数の否定語を使用する多重否定が大きく減少したことでも知られています。英語の否定構文の歴史を理解する上でかなめとなる中英語期に焦点をあて、主に統語的な立場から議論した著書になります。
