英語の補文の史的変化を特定の動詞から

ブログ管理者による専門分野の出版の一つになります。英語の補文とは少しわかりにくい表現ですが、本書が扱っている内容を簡単に述べると、特定の動詞がどのような構文を取るかという構文の問題です。文を成立させるために必要な要素がthat節で現れたり、不定詞で現れたり、動名詞で現れたり、というようにどのような構文を取るかが動詞ごとに異なることがあります。さらにこの構文の傾向が時代とともに変化するのも面白いところです。本書では、forbid, refuse, forbear, avoid, prohibit, prevent, hinder, refrain, fear, doubt, denyの構文の歴史を扱いました。
