アパラチアの英語に見られる代名詞の与格

アパラチアの英語について、一般的なアメリカ英語には見られないさまざまな特徴が指摘されています。Webelhuth and Dannenberg (2006)が指摘するSouthern American English personal dativesと言われるものもその一つで、She went into the store to get her a pair of shoesのような文で、sheと同一人物を示すdative pronoun（ここではher）が現れることが可能であるという現象のことを言います。

Webelhuth and Dannenberg (2006)はやや長めの論文ですが、帰着点はイディオムでした。結論部分を引用してみます。

In this section it was shown that the majority of the properties of the Southern DOC and the differences between this construction and its All-American counterpart fall out naturally from the assumption that the Southern DOC is an idiom that is not lexemically fixed, whereas the All-American DOC is not idiomatic. (p. 46)

アパラチアの英語で観察できる現象の多くは、英語史の視点からは必ずしも珍しいとは言えないものもありますので、時間軸や空間軸を拡げて、検討するとさらに議論が深まるかもしれないと思うものもあります。ここで紹介されている現象についても、その感覚を持ちました。
